Silencing Fahrenheit
9-11: CNU Democrats Public Presentation Squelched
College Democrats at Christopher Newport
University are facing attacks from not only their peers but a rigid
administration with a right wing agenda. On
Sunday the Hampton Roads Daily Press reported:
Kerry/Edwards buttons ripped off bookbags, torn
from windows and vandalized, protests during a voter-registration
drive, curses from fellow students.
These are few of the things the Young Democrats at
Christopher Newport University say have happened to their members
since the start of the school year.
College students are losing their right to express
their opinions on this conservative leaning campus. The response by
the administration at CNU? They are throwing roadblocks up to
prevent the student Democrats from publicly presenting Fahrenheit
9-11 this week.
The administration led by former Republican
Senator Paul Tribble stunned the college Democratic leadership with
demands that they pay $500 in licensing fees to display the film.
With just 3 days remaining until the scheduled Fahrenheit 9-11
screening the college organization is scrambling to raise money.
Free speech needs your help today.
The College Democrats at CNU need your help. We can not
stand by and let this attempt to squash academic discussion prevail.
Will you donate $5, $10, or $20 to help the CNU Democrats keep up
the fight on campus? Want to know how else you can help out the CNU
Democrats? Contact Erin Spicer at erin.spicer.04@cnu.edu
